Terrill Title Co., Inc. - History

Terrill Title Co., Inc. had its start with Ralph Wilson and Harold Foley who owned the Wilson and Foley Abstract Company. The abstract company was purchased by Max and Eleanore Terrill in the summer of 1932 from Mr. Wilson and Mr. Foley. In the early days and up until the 1970's, the Company made abstracts of properties for their customers. These abstracts were then reviewed by attorneys who would give their opinion of the title to the property. When title insurance came into popularity, Terrill Abstract Company signed up with Chicago Title Insurance Company as their insurer on titles. This affiliation continues today.

In 1972, the Company was purchased from Mrs. Terrill by Attorney Charles "Chick" Flack and Jerry Purdum of Macomb. In 1973, Mr. Flack and Mr. Purdum were joined by Nancy O'Harra of Carthage. At that time, Miss O'Harra also owned and operated an abstract company in Carthage and was well known in this area for her abstracting skill. More changes were in store in January 1977 when Attorney Larry Kwacala purchased the shares of Mr. Purdum.

In 1979, Pat Coker was hired as a researcher and, later that year, became manager of the small operation. In the 1990's she purchased the Corporation from Mr. Kwacala, Mr. Flack and Miss O'Harra. The Company was renamed Terrill Title Co., Inc. at the time of Pat's purchase, due to the fact that abstracts were almost completely phased out in the 1990's. The next generation joined the business in April 2008, when Pat announced that her daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Jeremy Benson, were new partners in the business.

Throughout the years, the Company has moved to several locations to accommodate growth spurts, with the most recent move being to 117 South Side Square in Macomb. Today, there is a whole team of researchers ready to assist customers in McDonough County, as well as surrounding counties.
